Magnolia Wooden Saya for 165 mm Deba Knives
Protect yourself and your valuable Japanese kitchen knife from scratches, impacts and other damage. A traditional wooden saya offers a simple and elegant solution for safely storing and transporting your knife.
This saya is handmade in Japan from Japanese magnolia wood, traditionally known as ho-no-ki. Magnolia is widely used for Japanese knife sheaths because it is lightweight, relatively soft and gentle on the blade. The wood contains little resin and has a fine, even grain, helping to reduce the risk of scratching or staining the knife. It also absorbs small amounts of moisture, although the knife should always be completely clean and dry before being placed inside the saya.
This model is designed for right-handed Deba knives with a blade length of approximately 165 mm. Because Deba knives can vary considerably in blade height, thickness and shape, this saya is intended as a universal model and will fit most traditional Deba knives of this size.
To make sure the saya is suitable for your knife, you can send us the exact blade dimensions by email. Please include the blade length, maximum blade height and spine thickness, preferably together with a photograph of the knife. We will then help determine the correct size. The maximum size for this saya is a Deba with a blade height of 54 mm and thickness of 8 mm.
The saya can also be personalised with laser engraving or traditional wood engraving. For example, we can add a name, company logo, personal message or Japanese-style good-luck wish.
Please note that these traditional sayas are supplied with an ebony retaining pin.
