Tree description
Up to 45 m high tree, trunk straight and cylindrical up to a maximum of 21 m, high root lists (1.20-2.00 m) are usually present, trunk diameter average 0.7-1.5 m.
Wood description
The heartwood is pink, pink-red to reddish brown colored with purple veins that cause a striped pattern on the quarter-sawn surface and a flamed pattern on the flat surface. Darkens in the light, making the pattern less noticeable. The most beautiful wood usually comes from Gabon, under the name kevazingo. The sapwood is whitish, about 60 mm wide.
