€ 14,95 € 6,95 (including VAT)

This beautiful hard wood comes from the American Maple (Maple). With this wood it is possible to manufacture a handle according to your wishes. 1 block contains enough wood for 2 traditional Japanese handles.

Light colored hardwood with little drawing. American Maple is also called Hard Maple (= English) or Maple (= German).
Maple wood is used for furniture and interiors. The wood is solid and works well.

American and European Maple are fairly similar. American wood, however, is slightly harder.

Maple works very little;
The hardness can be compared to beech wood.
American maple is a beautiful white wood with a white to cream-like color that becomes light yellow when exposed to daylight. To prevent this discoloration, special varnishes and / or bleaching agents are used. There is little or no color difference between heartwood and maple sapwood. In general, the wood has a uniform structure. Due to a fairly sharp limitation of the growth rings, a fine stripe pattern is usually visible on the quarter-hour plane and a modest flame pattern on the dosse plane. Characteristic are the small mirrors on the quarter surface and the slightly silky shine. Older trees can have a brownish core or dark brown stripes. This also applies to the American soft maple, which is approximately 25% softer than hard maple. The color of hard and soft maple is highly dependent on the place of origin.

It is very easy to machine with both the hand and the machine. The advantage of this type of wood is that you can make something with less physical effort. The disadvantage, however, is that you may chisel or scrape away too much of the wood when machining.

Natural wood, not stabilized, not stained. This type of wood must be well oiled before exposure to moisture.

The types of wood offered here are well dried and without knots, brushes, sapwood and woodworm.

  • Circa. 130x40x25 mm
