Like all cutting boards made of wood, the appearance of the wood can differ from the photos.

These boards are coated with a thin layer of natural varnish to protect them during storage and transport. This protective layer is water-soluble and can be easily removed before first use by washing or rinsing the board. Removing this layer is necessary to properly treat the wood.

The applied varnish is entirely natural, food-safe, and non-toxic. When exposed to water, the coating may temporarily develop a whitish discoloration, which can result in visible white spots. Once the varnish has been completely removed, the natural wood surface will become visible.

After removing the protective layer, the board should be treated with a natural, food-safe oil — such as grapeseed oil, tung oil, camellia oil, mineral oil, or a specialized cutting board oil or wax. Apply the oil generously, rub it in thoroughly, and allow the wood to absorb it for several hours or preferably overnight. For optimal moisture protection, it is important to treat both sides of the board. Repeat this treatment regularly (on average every two to three months) to prevent the wood from drying out and cracking.

Daily Maintenance

After each use, wash the cutting board by hand using warm water and mild soap. Never clean the board in a dishwasher and do not soak it in water, as this may cause warping. Dry the board thoroughly immediately after washing and allow it to air-dry in an upright position so that air can circulate on both sides.

For deep cleaning or odor removal, sprinkle coarse sea salt over the surface. Scrub with half a lemon, allow it to sit for approximately 15 minutes, and then rinse with water.

Additional Maintenance Tips

    •    Stubborn stains or deep scratches can be removed by lightly sanding the surface, always following the direction of the wood grain.

    •    Do not place the board on or near a heat source, and avoid drying it in direct sunlight to prevent cracking.

With proper care and maintenance, the board will retain its quality, appearance, and durability for many years.
