The horn of cattle can be used as such, after some processing, as a material for wind instruments, drinking cups or storage vessels. The processing of horn as a material has been known since prehistoric times. Horn can be processed like wood. It can be sawn, rasped, etc. This allows it to be processed into all kinds of small objects, such as hair combs, handles and knife handles, needles and awls, buttons, spoons, pipes, spectacle frames, dice and jewellery.

The water buffalo or carabao (karbauw) (Bubalus arnee bubalis) is a mammal from the family of the hollow horned animals (Bovidae). The scientific name of this cattle was published as Bos bubalis in 1758 by Carl Linnaeus.[1] It is the domesticated subspecies of the wild water buffalo (Bubalus arnee). If the water buffalo, as here, is taken to be the domesticated form of the wild water buffalo, then according to ICZN Opinion 2027 the species name Bubalus arnee should be used, and bubalis is the name of the subspecies. Carabao is the name for domesticated water buffalos.
