With this wood it is possible to manufacture a handle as desired. 1 block contains just enough wood for 2 traditional Japanese handles.

Ebony (Diospyros ebenum (Ceylon ebony)) is black colored wood, which is very heavy (it sinks in water). In a narrower sense, it is provided by a number of tropical species of the genus Diospyros (family Ebenaceae).

Ebony is very hard, but can nevertheless be worked reasonably to very well (sawing, planing, drilling and polishing). It has a homogeneous structure, a short grain and a fine grain and therefore hardly splinter.

After drying it has very little effect. It is used, among other things, for carving, sculpture, all kinds of decorative work, frames, veneer, chess pieces, piano keys, musical instruments or parts thereof.

Ebony is one of the types of wood that is traded per kilo. The reason for this is the preciousness of the material: trees that produce ebony are becoming increasingly rare. Today, around 50,000 to 65,000 euros is paid for a cubic meter of Ebony. In many countries, imports are strictly regulated or even prohibited, illegal imports are very heavily fined, all facts that drive the price up considerably.
