Kagemitsu honing rod for serrations (bread knives, etc)
Diamond Honing Rod
This compact and highly practical semi-round solid steel honing rod is coated with diamond grit, allowing knives to be sharpened quickly and efficiently. Diamond rods are more abrasive than ceramic honing rods, so we do not recommend using this rod on a daily basis.
The rod can be stored inside the handle by unscrewing the collar, making it extremely compact and easy to carry or use. We use this honing rod for manually sharpening the serrations of bread knives. It is also highly suitable as a regular honing rod for shorter knives such as pocket knives, hunting knives, and fishing knives.
Please note: traditional honing steels are not suitable for Japanese knives. The steel used in standard honing rods is softer than the hard steel found in Japanese knives, making regular honing ineffective. Only ceramic and diamond honing rods are suitable for maintaining the hard steel used in Japanese blades.
Specifications:
- Rod length: 75 mm
- Total length: 225 mm (extended), 140 mm (folded)
- Grit: #800
- Handle material: Aluminum
- Weight: 175 g
Please note: knives that are severely dull or damaged cannot be fully sharpened with this honing rod, as the grit is too fine for heavy restoration work. For such knives, we recommend using a Japanese whetstone (water stone).
