The European maple, also known as common maple (Acer pseudoplatanus), is a tree that occurs naturally in Central and Southern Europe, Western Asia and the Caucasus. It has long been naturalised in the Netherlands and Belgium. The tree can grow up to 30 metres high and has cream-coloured to light brown heartwood. The wood is not durable (durability class V) and is mainly used for indoor applications such as parquet, furniture, veneer and musical instruments.

About trees in general:

  • Maples are deciduous trees that belong to the Aceraceae family.
  • There are different types of maples, such as the Common maple (Acer pseudoplatanus), Norway maple (Acer platanoides) and Japanese maple (Acer palmatum).
  • Maples grow well in different locations, but prefer moist soil and can stand in both sun and light shade. The leaves of the maple tree change colour in autumn, depending on the species, to yellow, orange or red.
  • Some species, such as the Japanese maple, have beautifully coloured leaves that add ornamental value to the garden.
  • Maple wood is popular because of its beautiful pattern and is often used for furniture, floors and musical instruments.

  • Natural wood, not stabilised, not coloured.
  • The types of wood offered here are well dried.
