With this wood it is possible to manufacture a handle as desired. 1 block contains enough wood for 2 traditional Japanese handles.

Calamander or coromandel is a valuable wood from India and Sri Lanka (Ceylon). It is a hazel-brown color, with brown stripes (or the other way about), very heavy and hard. It is also known as Macassar ebony or variegated ebony and is closely related to genuine ebony, but is obtained from different species in the same genus; one of these is Diospyros quaesita Thwaites, from Sri Lanka. The name "calamander" comes from coromandel, referring to the Coromandel Coast in India from where it was exported.

The types of wood offered here are well dried and without sapwood and woodworm. The wood may contain some small knots and knots, which is very nice with finished handles.

  • Natural wood, not stabilized, not colored.
  • Minimum 135x40x28mm
