European hornbeam block (Carpinus betulus)

Stone beech is found in Europe and west Asia and it is also called hornbeam. It is a small tree that is sometimes irregularly shaped. The wood is hard and tough and difficult to split. It has a fine grain and works a lot. The wood is more difficult to work because of its density, but it is excellent for milling and turning.

European hornbeam is extremely suitable for butcher blocks and tools because of its properties. It is also used for various turning, drum sticks and hammers. Stained black it is also used as imitation ebony.

With this wood it is possible to manufacture a handle as desired. This block contains enough wood for 2 traditional Japanese handles.

  • The types of wood offered here are well dried.
  • 135 x 43 x 30 mm

NOTE: Supplied block may differ from the photo. Sizes can deviate a few millimeters.
